About Colorado Lottery

Colorado offers an interesting take on the concept of a state lottery – the Colorado Lottery is actually an enterprise fund that receives no money from the Colorado General Fund in order to operate successfully. With more than 30 years of experience, the Colorado Lottery is dedicated to creating big winners and preserving the state’s natural beauty.

Buying Lottery Tickets

Individiuals who do not live in the USA can take part in Powerball and Mega Millions by using regulated online services, however the only way to play Colorado-only games is to visit the Centennial State and purchase a ticket from a lottery agent.

Game Information

The Colorado Lottery sells tickets for Powerball and Mega Millions, but residents can also purchase tickets for great in-state draw games:

Lotto is Colorado’s very own jackpot game. In operation since 1989, it offers residents the chance to win a jackpot worth a minimum of $1 million, which rolls over and increases in value until it is won. Tickets cost $2 each and players select six numbers from 1 to 40. Drawings take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:35 PM. If a player matches all six of the numbers drawn, they’ll win the jackpot.

Each ticket also comes with a random multiplier, from 2x to 5x. If a player wins a non-jackpot prize, it will be multiplied by the value of the multiplier on their ticket. Here’s a breakdown of the prizes and their associated odds of winning:

Lotto Plus is also available for an extra $1 per play. This is a second drawing with a top prize of $250,000 that takes place straight after the main game. The same numbers that a player picks for Lotto are entered into the Lotto Plus game, and non-jackpot prizes are still increased by the random multiplier on their ticket. It is possible to win prizes on both Lotto and Lotto Plus on the same night. The following table shows the prizes that can be won on Lotto Plus:

Cash5 gives players the chance to win a top prize of $20,000 every day of the week! Drawings are held nightly at 7:35 PM and tickets cost just $1 per line. Players select five numbers from 1 to 32. To win the top prize, you’ll have to match all five numbers drawn. Here’s how it works:

Other Colorado Lottery games include Pick 3, which is played daily at 7:36 PM.

Scratch games are a great choice for those who want the chance to be rewarded straight away! These games can be purchased from authorized Colorado Lottery retailers and have a price range from $1 to $20. The higher the price of the ticket, the greater the amount and value of the prizes you could win.

History of the Colorado Lottery

The Colorado Lottery was established on July 1st, 1982 in order to provide funding for the state’s Conservation Trust Fund as well as state parks, outdoor recreation initiatives and construction projects. The first game, a scratchcard, went on sale in January 1983. Sales far outpaced initial expectations and the first lottery drawing was held on April 23rd of that same year.

Lotto, the state’s first jackpot game, was launched in 1989 and the Colorado Lottery began selling Powerball tickets in August 2001. Mega Millions tickets went on sale in Colorado on May 16th, 2010.

Lotto was adapted in September 2019, as the number of balls to pick from went down from 42 to 40 – improving the odds of winning the jackpot. Lotto Plus was also introduced, creating more ways to win prizes.

The Colorado Lottery is set to continue operating until 2024, and given its popularity among residents, they won’t need to worry about that upcoming deadline!
