No big winner yet: Mega Millions closes in on $1 billion; Powerball now at $730 million
Did anyone win the Mega Millions jackpot last night? Not on Tuesday (1/19/2021). The jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing rolls to $970 million.
Sam Singh is selling a lot of lottery tickets at his store in Keizer.
“It’s always this way when the jackpots get this big,” he told the Oregon Lottery last week after a winning $50,000 ticket was sold at the market.
He added: “My advice to players is to buy more tickets. As much as you play, it increases your chances to win.”
Well, technically, yes. But the odds of scoring a big payout are still exceedingly low for any particular ticket buyer.
That said, someone’s eventually going to win big, right? And the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are mind-boggling.
No ticket had all six numbers in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions drawing, so the jackpot in the game is now closing in on $1 billion. It’s expected to land at about $970 million for Friday’s drawing.
The Mega Millions winning numbers are 10, 19, 26, 28 and 50. The Mega Ball drawn was 16 with a Megaplier of 2X.
Powerball, meanwhile, comes in at $730 million for the drawing Wednesday.
The two big lottery games are played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
No one has won a top prize since last September. The odds that you can match all six numbers to score a massive payout is one in more than 200 million for each of the two games.
The largest Powerball payout came in 2016 at $1.586 billion. A Mega Millions jackpot in 2018 came close to that: $1.537 billion. No big winner yet: Mega Millions closes in on $1 billion; Powerball now at $730 million Did anyone win the Mega Millions jackpot last night?
