Brunswick County woman wins 200K with Carolina Panthers scratch-off lottery ticket

For an Oak Island woman, 2021 has gotten off to a great start.

Sandra Benotti, a retired nurse who moved to Brunswick County from Massachusetts last year with her husband, has claimed a $200,000 as part of a scratch-off game run by the North Carolina education lottery.

“I still can’t believe it,” Benotti said in a news release. “This is phenomenal. I never thought this would happen.”

Benotti bought her $5 ticket — part of a promotional game with the NFL’s Carolina Panthers the lottery launched last July — at the Doodles gas station on Country Club Drive in Oak Island.

Benotti claimed her prize this week at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and took home $141,501 after taxes. She said she plans on using the money to buy a new SUV and, once the pandemic abates, to take a vacation to Italy, the country of her ancestors.

One top prize of $200,000, as well as a number of other prizes, remains in the Carolina Panthers scratch-off game.

She said she plans on using the money to buy a new SUV and, once the pandemic abates, to take a vacation to Italy, the country of her ancestors.

North Carolina Woman Wins $1 Million In Lottery Scratch-Off Game

Dec. 8–A Fayetteville woman will have some extra cash to do her Christmas shopping after winning $1 million playing the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Catrina Hanton purchased the $10 Bankroll ticket at the Short Stop on Gillispie Street, the North Carolina Education Lottery said in a news release Monday. The game is one of the new scratch-off games and the top prize is $1 million.

“It feels great,” Hanton said in the release. “I’m shocked, very shocked.”

Hanton claimed her prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. She had the choice of taking the $1 million as an annuity of 20 payments of $50,000 a year or a lump sum of $600,000. She chose the lump sum and took home $424,503 after required state and federal tax withholdings, the release said.

“I just plan to help my family out,” Hanton said of her plans for the money.

Hanton is the first top winner in the Bankroll game.
