South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance Program (SCLTA)

Please visit Tuition and Payment for lottery tuition assistance amounts for the semester you will be attending. Lottery tuition assistance will be applied to the cost of tuition only. It will not cover the cost of textbooks, housing, transportation, etc. South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance reduces tuition costs for SC residents. When federal grants are not enough to cover tuition, many times lottery tuition assistance covers the rest.

Current Requirements

  • Be a South Carolina resident.
  • Complete a FAFSA at FAFSA.gov or, if you have earned a bachelor’s degree, submit the Lottery Tuition Assistance Waiver (2019-2020) or Lottery Tuition Waiver (2020-2021) , based on academic year you will be attending TTC. Please note that certain students are exempt from completing the FAFSA. These students include: students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree, students who are enrolled in a program that is not eligible for Title IV aid, dually enrolled students, and students who cannot obtain their parents’ tax information. These students will be required to complete a SC Lottery Tuition Waiver form and possibly provide other documentation.
  • Enroll in six credit hours (lottery currently pays $110 per credit hour).
  • Enroll in an eligible program of study.

Lottery tuition assistance will be awarded when all federal and the SC Need-based Grant have been awarded. If the cost of tuition has been met by federal and state grants, lottery will not be applicable. If you withdraw from classes after the final add/drop date, you will still receive SC Lottery Tuition Assistance. However, you need to meet the renewal requirements to be awarded the grant for an additional year.

Renewal Requirements

  • Maintain Lottery Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) towards completion of a certificate diploma or degree. After attempting 24 credit hours, earn a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale for graduation purposes by the end of each academic year (fall, spring, summer terms) also known as Lottery SAP.
  • Complete the FAFSA and continue to meet all initial eligibility requirements annually.
  • Students who have used SC Lottery Tuition Assistance to obtain one certificate, diploma or associate degree are not eligible to receive the South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance within any five-year period of obtaining the credential, unless the additional certificate, diploma or degree constitutes progress in the same field of study. A certificate or diploma earned that relates to the associate degree constitutes the same field of study.

Remedial Coursework

Students enrolled in an eligible program of study as stated in the “Program Definitions” section of the regulations may include remedial courses as part of the minimum number of required credit hours for part-time or full-time status, as long as such courses carry credit hours and meet Title IV limitations on remedial coursework.

Transient Students

Students identified as a transient student are not eligible to receive South Carolina Lottery Tuition Assistance at the host institution. A transient (or visiting) student is a student at TTC (host institution) who is enrolled in a degree program at another college and is taking courses at TTC with the intent of transferring the course credit back to their home institution.

Note: LIFE scholarship recipients are ineligible for SCLTA. Students who earned an associate degree within the past five years at a SC technical college are also ineligible for SCLTA.
